Thoona is a town in north-eastern Victoria, Australia. The town is located 247 kilometres (153 mi) north east of the state capital Melbourne, in the Rural City of Benalla local government area. At the 2006 census, Thoona and the surrounding area had a population of 474.[1]
Thoona Post Office opened on 18 August 1882. [2]
The town itself is located on the edge of a small hill. There is the Warby ranges just about 5km away. Thoona was home to the first co-operative butter factory in north-east Victoria.[3] In November each year Thoona hosts the Victorian Wheelie Bin championships. A documentary on the event was made in 2001.[4]
